The two bursary award categories will be judged by a panel of senior figures from across the legacy and in-memory sector, with at least two judges assessing each scheme.
Applicants will only be considered for a Legacy Futures Award if:
They are employed by / volunteering in a charity
They agree to attend an online event where the bursary award will be presented to the successful candidate(s)
They are willing to write an article regarding their experience and provide quotes for future publicity materials
They are willing to have their photograph used in future publicity materials, including on the Legacy Futures group company websites.
The Bursary Awards are based on an assessment of the applicants’ experience, performance and potential, using a transparent scoring system agreed by all judges. Bursary Awards will only be awarded to individuals or teams who, in the opinion of the panel, will benefit from the bursary award and who will use it to contribute positively to their organisation in the future.
Crispin Ellison Bursary
The Crispin Ellison Bursary was set up in 2016 to support individuals currently working or volunteering in the charity sector looking to further their professional development, by providing funding to complete legacy management training through the Institute of Legacy Management.
The Crispin Ellison Bursary Award will fund ILM training up to the market value of £1,000. There will be two award winners in this category. For more information about ILM training visit https://legacymanagement.org.uk/training-and-events/
This award is only open to UK based entries.
The bursaries will be payable directly to the ILM once the relevant training courses have been booked.
The bursary must be repaid in full if the winners do not comply with ILM training terms and conditions.
Award winners must commit to completing the training within 12 months of receiving the bursary Award (or the first module of the CiCLA).
Any extra costs incurred (such as attending optional revision classes for levels 2 and 3/ other courses on the ILM training programme) are to be covered by the individual.
How to apply
Applications open in January 2024 and closing at 17.00 (GMT) on 29th March 2024. Any applications received after this date will be deemed ineligible.
Application details will be available on our website www.legacyfutures.com from 10 January 2024.
Applicants will be required to apply via an online survey.
Applications should be made as early as possible.
Adjudication process
All applications will be judged by a panel of experts from the legacy and in-memory sector, supported by the Legacy Futures team.
The decision of the award panel is final.
The decision on whether to award a bursary/award is at the discretion of the award panel and is not subject to appeal. No explanation will be given on why a particular application was not successful.
All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by email in May 2024.
Future Leaders Bursary
This bursary is designed to invest in future legacy leaders through our exclusive mentoring programme in partnership with the Elischer Foundation.
There will be two winners in this category.
Applications are open to individuals working or volunteering for charities or not-for-profit organisations in any country, but mentoring will be delivered in English and in UK working timezones.
No substitutions can be made in place of mentorships. No extra costs shall be funded (such as future bookings for support, guidance or consultancy work).

We will support the Change Collective’s efforts to ensure that individuals from all backgrounds, including those with protected characteristics are retained and progressed. Bursary Awards will be awarded based on the individual’s own aptitude and ability.

It is important that Legacy Futures is informed of any change of circumstances that affects the application submitted (for example, change of role, receiving funding elsewhere, etc) as soon as possible.
